There is a pandemic of posture problems that have accelerated in the last 10 years, and the main culprit is the smart phone. You’ve seen it: everyone standing at the bus stop holding their phones at their chest and bending their neck forward and down in order to see it clearly. Our modern, first world society enjoys smart phones, which are basically computers now. In fact, people surf the web on their smart phone even more than on their computer nowadays.
By all means, there are some cases of bad posture that can’t be blamed on smart phones. For example, those with scoliosis are obviously going to struggle with posture – you can find out more about scoliosis on the Scoliosis Institute website. However, smart phones are definitely to blame for many cases. We can’t seem to spend more than a few seconds standing around anymore, without pulling out our smart phone to “get stuff done,” whether that be checking emails, Facebook status updates, Instagram, other media, etc. This seems to be particularly prevalent among adolescents, who tend to be glued to their phone more than any other age group. Obviously, the impact of this on our bodies can be detrimental, with more and more kids finding themselves with back issues like kyphosis that were once associated with the older generation. Luckily, there are treatment options commonly accessed through services like Medical City Kids Orthopedics to correct these issues, but a bad posture should be corrected before getting to this stage.
The video below shows a couple tips on preventing and reversing this modern day posture syndrome, so enjoy, and pass the information forward to your friends, family and loved ones!
